Feature Job - Bale Eater

Clients travel the distance for results

Suncor Energy needed a big job done right and on time for its Oil Sands facilities in Fort McMurray Alberta. And they were willing to go anywhere to get it done properly. So they did as so many others from Alberta do: crossed the Rockies and came to the pros at Northern Steel in Prince George BC.

Oil is serious business in Alberta. Especially at the Fort McMurray Oil Sands. The area is a land of opportunity in the oil and gas sector, with adequate reserves for another 75 years of production.

Suncor has operated facilities at the Oil Sands since 1967, and has produced half a billion barrels of oil from the region. But the firm continues to invest billions of dollars to upgrade its capabilities, building new facilities and purchasing state of the art equipment.

In this case, Suncor needed two reclaim chutes for their refining process. These devices are nothing short of massive. They measure 80 feet in length and 15 feet tall. Each one weighs in at a whopping 75 tonnes.

Suncor wanted the job done properly, and came to a firm with the right stuff. Northern Steel's ISO 9001:2000 certification provides clients with the assurance of high quality they need for jobs of this size. We've always felt pride in making excellent products. But now, we've got that extra piece of paper to prove how good our work is.

Our craftsmen expertly brought together the 150 tonnes of steel that make up the two chutes. Within ten weeks, we had prepared the chutes to the exact specs needed for Suncor, and loaded them on eight flat bed trucks for transport to their new home.

Although Prince George and Fort McMurray are hundreds of kilometres apart, a distance like that is never a problem. From our central British Columbia base, Northern Steel is consistently able to serve clients great distances away. When a firm needs the best product, they're usually willing to go the distance to get it. And likewise, we go the distance to get the job done right for them.

Northern Steel has the expertise to do high-quality work in an efficient manner. Whether it's a project in the oil and gas trade, the pulp and paper sector, or the minerals industry, our staff members have the skills and dedication to get the job done.

Maybe it's time you follow Suncor's lead, and call the pros.
