Where We Live

Prince George is a mid-sized city located in central British Columbia. Our residents are generally young and typically have higher incomes than in other cities in B.C. Meanwhile, they live in a community with an abundance of inexpensive housing.

With a population of 81,000, we have all of the conveniences of a larger city, but very few of the struggles of traffic and overcrowding. Let's put it this way... you can get from one end of Prince George to the other in moments, and right out of town in no time.

We truly experience every season in Prince George. Mild and dry summers lead to beautiful Indian Summers, and crisp golden autumns. Our brisk "postcard" like winters are a refreshing change, and we really appreciate spring after our hearty winters.

If you enjoy the outdoors you will love Prince George. There are unlimited opportunities for hunting, fishing, boating and hiking in the area. The interior of BC is well known as being one of the best places in the world for encountering wildlife. The nearby Rocky Mountains provide a spectacular playground for summer and winter activities, from killer mountain biking to the champagne powder that skiers dream of.

Prince George is a snowmobiling mecca and has a wide variety of suitable terrain from gentle trails to towering mountain peaks. Cycling, canoeing, boating, and golf are other popular activities to enjoy in the summer months.

We are also home to the WHL's Prince George Cougars and the BCHL Spruce Kings. Hockey is an institution, with many people belonging to teams in local leagues. In the summer, softball is a prime social activity.

When not showcasing the Cougars, our Multiplex features such big name acts as ZZ Top, The Tragically Hip and Bryan Adams. Professional and amateur theatre are easily accessible, as are the symphony and brand new art gallery. We are also the proud home of two museums.

There are two local post secondary institutions in Prince George. The College of New Caledonia is the local community college with programs ranging from Arts to Heavy Duty Mechanics. The University of Northern British Columbia is Canada's newest university with a beautiful campus overlooking the city. There are a wide range of programs available, producing highly desired professionals.

Of course, the community is well appointed with many restaurants, hotels and specialty stores. We feature three major malls, most large retailers, as well as many unique merchants. Prince George is diversifying a great deal, and is poised to become a hub for much activity in British Columbia.
